A 27-year-old man has died after a collision on the A421.
The Bedford bypass was shut to westbound traffic between Cardington and Elstow yesterday (April 17) after the fatal accident, which happened at around 5.15am.
Police believe one of the vehicles involved, a silver Volkswagen Up, was travelling east on the same stretch of road before colliding with a white Mercedes Sprinter car transporter lorry.
A police spokeswoman said: “Emergency services attended and sadly a 27-year-old man from Northampton was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The road remained closed between the A603 and A6 until about 2pm
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision and are appealing for anyone who saw the Volkswagen or the lorry prior to the incident, or witnessed the incident itself, to contact them on 101 with information quoting reference 74 of Sunday.
