A specialist explosives team safely destroyed a ‘suspicious device’ last night (Monday, June 30) after it was recovered from the river in Bedford.

Police put a 100-metre cordon in place on The Embankment, near the War Memorial, as the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit moved the device to a safe location.

The force warned anyone living nearby to not call 999 if they heard the explosion.
