Police hunting rapist in Bedford appeal for witnesses involved in fight nearby

It's believed they may have "vital information"

Detectives investigating a report of rape in woods near The Spinney in Bedford are appealing to the public for help, following information received about a fight involving a group of men near to the same location.

Just after 9pm on Friday (April 16), a group of men were involved in the altercation near The Spinney, and one ran off in the direction of the Travelodge hotel, Goldington Road.

He was seen to approach a member of the public passing by. The other men left the scene.

Officers are now keen to trace both this man and the passer by, as they may be able to assist the investigation into the rape.

Detective Inspector Michelle Lack, leading the investigation, said: “We’d like to thank the members of the public who have provided us with information so far, and are now appealing for further help to find both the man and the person he spoke to.

“We believe both could have vital information which could help us with our enquiries.

“We are doing everything we can to find the person responsible for this shocking incident. If you were in the area around that time and saw or heard anything, or have any information, however small, please do contact us.”
