Following a tip-off, more than 100 stolen bikes have been seized from one property in Bedford.

A member of the public saw a stolen cycle being advertised for sale on social media and contacted Bedfordshire Police - but when officers visited an address in Bedford, they were shocked to find more than 100 bikes at the property.

And they are now urging anyone who has had a bike stolen in the last few weeks, to get in touch.

The massive haul of stolen bikes

A spokesman for the force said: "We've already had a huge response, so if people could be patient with us, we'd be grateful."

They are asking people not to call 101 but instead to submit a report via email to the investigating officer - [email protected] with the subject header Bedford Bike Theft 40/35795/20.

PC Jade Kilbey, investigating, said: “This was a proactive arrest carried out off the back of intelligence provided by a member of the public who had been a victim of bike theft. The number of bicycles we have recovered is significant and it would be great to be able to reunite some of them with their rightful owners.

“We would urge anyone who has had their pedal cycle stolen within the Bedford area in recent weeks to get in contact with the make, model, colour and serial number of their bike, along with any other distinguishing features."

A 41-year-old man from the town was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods. He has been released under investigation while police enquiries continue.
