A closure order on five plots at the travellers’ site in Cardington has been granted following a police investigation into criminal activity linked to drugs.

The order was carried out on the site at Willow Drift travellers’ site in Meadow Lane following a legal application to Bedford Borough Council.

Police officers carried out a drugs warrant at the site in Cardington on Thursday, December 13, where nine men and four women were arrested, and later bailed.

On December 14, Bedford Borough Council obtained a three-month property closure order, which was issued at Luton Magistrates’ Court, for five plots at the site.

Superintendent Mark Upex, of the operation’s command team, said: “An investigation is now under way.

“We have a duty of care to the other residents, and to the wider local community, to ensure people can live safely, peacefully and lawfully.”
