Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a man was verbally and physically assaulted in what is believed to be a racially-motivated attack.

The incident took place at a Nisa store in London Road, Bedford, at around 10.30am, on Friday (2 October), when a man made a racist comment towards another man. When challenged, the offender headbutted the victim, causing facial injuries.

The offender is described as white, aged around 40, of stocky build and around six foot tall.

He was wearing a blue ‘England’ T-shirt and dark jeans.

PC Mike Donegal, investigating, said: “Hate crime of any kind will not be tolerated in Bedfordshire and I would be keen to hear from anyone who recognises the man described, or any shoppers in the store at this time who witnessed this needless and violent attack.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Donegal on the non-emergency number 101, or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
