A couple who met on the stage have found a novel way to fund their upcoming wedding, by putting on an adult version of Alice in Wonderland.
Coylah Willock and Anna Wingerath, both 32, met when they were performing with the Bedford Pantomime Company.
After wondering for some time what the performances would be like if they were re-written for adults they decided to bite the bullet and give it a go.
That discussion led to their first show, and now, four years on, they are preparing to put on their fourth original creation.
Alice in Wonderland was first performed in Bedford in January this year and is due to return to the town for three nights next month.
When asked to describe the show, Coylah said: “It’s a crazy, weird, mad journey through Wonderland with the aim of perverting Alice’s innocence at all costs. “We’ve taken an innocent children’s character and totally twisted it on its head in an adult way.”
Anna and Coylah, who live in from Abington, Northampton, are not only seeking to make their audiences laugh through their performance, they’re also hoping to raise enough to fund their wedding next year.
Describing it as a festival-style wedding to be held at a ‘yurt camp’ in Devon, Coylah said: “There will be loads of music and I’m sure plenty more performances with all our drama friends.
“We’re hoping to pay for as much of it as possible from the shows.”
With plans to one day take their performances to the Edinburgh Fringe, the couple have big dreams.
They are also looking for a suitable venue in Northampton and say they would like to put on a future show in the town where they live.
Alice in Wonderland will run from May 14 to 16 at the Trinity Arts and Leisure Centre in Bedford.
