The nominations are for the Best Outreach Initiative – for its intergenerational mini-series The Exchange, and for the Most Improved Station.

Radio LaB co-ordinator Terry Lee said: “It’s always great when Radio LaB is recognised for the good work we do, as both a radio station for the students and for the wider community.

“In the two years I have been at the university I have had the pleasure in working with a plethora of talented, committed students and volunteers with great ideas. I’m really pleased that the I Love Student Radio Awards judging panel have shortlisted us, it’s a fantastic reward for everyone involved.”

The past year has seen Radio Lab make substantial changes in the way it works. It has a more structured daytime programming and has invested in outside broadcast equipment which has seen the station cover events such as the Students’ Union elections and the annual sports Varsity event.

Radio Lab also set up The Exchange, a four-part mini-series using music as a conversation-starter between young people and older folk.

Other improvements have included an improved online steaming and the setting up of a ‘listen again’ section of its website. All this was topped off with a rebranding exercise which saw university students choose a new logo.

Winners and highly commended entries for all the awards will be announced at a ceremony at the National Student Radio Conference in Cardiff on Thursday, March 31.
