Community IT courses

Students have been passing on their computer skills to an older generation.

During the autumn term Sandy Upper School Sixth Formers ran IT classes for the over 60s.

They taught basic skills, right from switching on the computer to sending an email and uploading pictures from a camera.

Head of Sixth Form, Ben Matthews, said: “One of our colleagues, her mother was going to some community computer lesson at her local school so we decided to do the same thing.

“Our Year 12s organised a programme of basic IT skills. It’s something that they’ve volunteered to do.

“The people who’ve come have really appreciated it. One lady said she really looked forward to coming every week. It got her out of the house and she learnt a lot.”

The course ran for six weeks from 3.30pm to 4.30pm on Wednesdays.

The school will run another course if enough people are interested. Contact the school on 01767 680598 to find out more.
