A choir set up to bring the community together in song is ending its first year on a high note.

The choir, known as Our Local Event, was set up earlier this year and has been busy during the run-up to the festive season.

Choir leader David Meek has been leading the Bedford singers in a range of Christmas carols and the group are looking to welcome new voices next year.

David, who leads a number of choirs for adults and children in the area, has been leading a daytime choir for Our Local Event since September.

Our Local Event was set up earlier in 2015 by Mike and Rachel Brown and is dedicated to bringing people togther to sing in local communities.

The Bedford choir has a dedicated core group of singers and will welcome new members in January when the new term starts.

Organiser Rachel Brown said: “David is brilliant at making everyone feel comfortable and confident to sing.

“The material is accessible and works well for people to be able to start to come together in a new group to sing in simple harmony - and it definitely has the feel-good factor.”

The choir’s Christmas repertoire has included classics such as White Christmas, Silent Night and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing as well as upbeat numbers like Rockin Around the Christmas Tree and Ding Dong Merrily on High.

Rachel added: “It’s been great to get going in 2015 and we hope to continue building the group in 2016.”

The group meets on Wednesdays in term time at the Faraday Community Centre, in Kelvin Avenue, Bedford, from 10am until 11am.
