The incident occurred at 7.15am on Friday (March 14) on the A421 near the Black Cat Roundabout.

Both vehicles were flatbed trucks carrying cherry pickers. They were travelling in convoy along the Great Barford bypass in the heavy fog.

The collision occurred when the vehicle in front slowed, causing the cherry picker cradle being carried on the back to pierce the cab of the second vehicle, which had failed to slow. This caused serious injury to the driver.

The ambulance, fire and police services plus the Magpas Rapid Response BMW all attended.

Together they sedated the injured man, who is in his 30s, before removing him from the cab of his lorry.

The Helimedix team anaesthetised him and put measures in place to protect his pelvis.
