The launch of a church’s fund-raising appeal was boosted by the attendance of Bedfordshire’s Lord Lieutenant.
Helen Nellis was guest of honour as the Friends of St Owen’s Church, Bromham, officially opened its Building Appeal Fund, on Friday, April 17.
Noting the project had already been granted planning permission, Mrs Nellis said the much-needed toilets, kitchen and meeting room, together with improvements in disabled access, would make the building “fit for purpose in the 21st century and yet maintain its appeal as a historic Grade 1 Listed church set in the beautiful Bromham Park”.
St Owen’s Reverend Linda Bond also introduced a showing of a specially-commissioned DVD about Bromham, its history and its residents.
The documentary, narrated by Songs of Praise presenter Pam Rhodes, shows scenes from around the village and includes interviews with residents.
The Friends are leading the appeal and urge anyone wishing to help to contact the Hon Treasurer, c/o 53 Grange Lane, Bromham, MK43 8NS.
The DVD is available for £10 per copy by writing to the Church Administrator, Avoca House, Molivers Lane, Bromham, MK43 8JT, or calling 01234 825454
