Child porn doctor faces professional ruin after pleading guilty to possessing indecent images

A gynaecologist faces professional ruin after he admitted possessing child abuse images.

Timmy Kowlessar, who worked at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury, Bucks, was obsessed with collecting adult porn.

But a court heard that the 42 year-old, who was living in Leighton Buzzard, Beds, at the time of his arrest, also had illegal images of underage children - some among the worst kind available.

Police seized hard drives and various computers at his home and found 18 indecent images of children, 12 of which had been deleted, among adult pornography.

One was in Category A, the most serious category, 14 at the second level and three in Category C, the least serious.

Kowlessar was arrested in May last year and suspended and now faces a General Medical Council hearing to decide if he will be allowed to work in the profession again.

The father-of-one pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children.

He was given a 12 month community order with 12 months supervision and ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work.

Judge Michael Kay QC said: “This is an unusual and troubling case.

“You were a gynaecologist, but there is no suggestion of any impropriety at all in relation to your work, and I emphasise that.

“Also it is not suggested that any of the images concerned very young children or babies.

“Nevertheless, the public will be concerned that a man in your position has behaved this way.

“It seems you became obsessed with collecting adult pornography, which is not illegal.

“You have ruined your own professional life and your family life.”

Philip Misner, defending, said whether Knowlessar would ever be able to return to work was an ‘open-ended question’.

He moved to Norfolk from his home in Leighton Buzzard and his family had moved to Trinidad following his arrest.

Kowlessar was offered a job selling double glazing but it was retracted when the company found out about the case.

He was made subject to a SOPO and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders register for five years.
