Charity: T-shirt challenge to arty youngsters

A newly launched charity needs young people from the south of England to use their creative skills to come up with an eye catching T-shirt design that will be used in its marketing campaign.

Bag4Sport turns textiles collected by participating groups into cash to pay for coaching and equipment.

Anyone aged 16 or under who belongs to a sports club, school or other youth organisation can enter the competition and be in the running to win £500.

The charity was launched two weeks ago by Olympic gold medallist Tessa Sanderson and aims to raise £100,000 over the next year to help grass root sport and budding stars of the future.

Joint founder Andy Trusler said: “The winning T-shirt design will play a big part in our promotional work. We are looking for something creative that catches the sporting theme.

“It can be abstract or symbolic like some of the artwork for the 2012 Olympics or it can be a more real life representation of sport. Everyone will have a different idea and we will be looking for the most creative that captures the work of the charity.”

Bag4Sport was started by Mr Trusler and Jide Ihenacho as a way groups could raise money for equipment by collecting unwanted clothes. The bags of textiles are collected and weighed and then recycled for cash by the not-for-profit organisation.

Now the charity arm of the organisation is taking fundraising to a new level. Mr Trusler said: “Some of the entrants may want to include the recycling element in their design as this is still very much part of our work.”

Entries for the competition should be created on white A4 paper and can either be sent as a hard copy in the post or by email by February 10 to Bag4Sport, Unit 2A Roundway Business Park, Hopton Industrial Estate, Devizes, SN10 2HUor by email to [email protected] .

A group of judges, that will include Devizes MP Claire Perry and Devizes Mayor, will then pick a winner. Full details of the competition and how to enter are on the website
