Charity: Samaritans counting on the feel good factor

Helpline and support charity The Samaritans is calling on employers and employees across the UK to get involved in their brand new workplace fundraising day, Feel Good Friday, taking place on Friday, February 3.

The charity is asking people to visit the website www.feelgoodfriday.org to find out how they can raise vital funds for the helpline service that answers more than five million calls every year.

This new initiative is sponsored by healthcare provider Simplyhealth and aims to get people organising and taking part in ‘feel good’ themed activities and challenges at their place of work, in return for making a donation to Samaritans.

People looking for inspiration and help with organising their own ‘feel good’ fundraiser can download a pack from the new website and browse for ideas, which range from playing ‘feel good’ music at work, to sponsoring their senior management to do something funny – like coming to work in fancy dress.

Samaritans’ head of fundraising, Chris Jarrett said: “It’s so important that as many employers and employees as possible get involved in Feel Good Friday.

“By simply having fun at work, people can help us to answer thousands more calls from people who might not have anywhere else to turn.”

Mark Day from Simplyhealth said: Feel Good Friday is all about doing something fun and that makes you feel good.

“All too often we are so focused on keeping up with the pace of modern life that we forget to take some time to relax and enjoy ourselves.

“We hope that Feel Good Friday shows people the value of taking time out, whilst at the same time helping to raise money for Samaritans. Get involved by downloading your pack from the Feel Good Friday website. “
