New carriages for passengers on the Thameslink line through Bedford and Flitwick are moving a step closer.

The first new Thameslink trains have been built and are on a test track ready to transform travel for passengers from 2016.

Siemens has manufactured more than 200 of the 1,140 ‘Desiro City’ Class 700 body shells with a total of six trains completed to date. They arrive in service between Bedford and Brighton from spring next year.

The first new Thameslink train will roll in to the purpose-built Three Bridges depot in Crawley this summer.

The state-of-the-art Class 700 has been developed to meet the demands of the Thameslink Programme – delivering high frequency, high capacity services.
