A campaign group battling to keep fluoride out of Bedford’s tap water have released a movie about the dangers of the additive.
Fluoride Free Bedford has launched its 50-minute film - Toxic Tap Water: Bedford’s Battle Against Water Fluoridation - on YouTube and Vimeo.
To coincide with the release, the organisation is calling for a UK alliance of campaign groups against water fluoridation.
Spokesman for the Bedford group Cynthia Bagchi said: “It’s particularly important now because the government intends to fluoridate the whole country - and they may well do it by very subtle means. Together we can accomplish so much more than in isolated groups.
“An alliance will encourage every citizen to take responsibility to ensure that our water is free from industrial contaminants and the adulterations of hazardous by-products never approved for human consumption.”
More than six million people in England are exposed to fluoride in their tap water every day. Areas that still operate fluoridation schemes include Cumbria, Cheshire, Tyneside, Northumbria, Humberside, Lincolnshire, Durham, Nottinghamshire, the West Midlands and Derbyshire.
Some studies link fluoride in tap water to health problems.
