Bedford Modern School year 12 student Rachel Radley has been installed as a cadet selected to support the Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Helen Nellis, during her duties this year.
The appointment was made at a ceremony held at the Woburn Hotel on Wednesday, January 20.
Rachel has been involved in the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) since Year 9 and has reached the rank of Cadet Flight Sergeant in the RAF section. She said: “I feel extremely honoured and proud to be representing the school. I’m really looking forward to all the events I’ll be attending and the new people I’ll get to meet, it’s a really exciting opportunity for me.”
Steve Harvey, CCF Contingent Commander at Bedford Modern School also attended the special occasion and said: “Since joining the CCF, Rachel has showed herself to be a highly committed and self-reliant leader. She took over the leadership of the RAF section when she was in Year 11 and has set the highest personal standards for her cadets. She richly deserves this highly sought after and prestigious position.”
Rachel continues to balance her cadet work with her studies and hopes to study medicine at university.
Assisting the Lord-Lieutenant with her civic duties as required during 2016, the young people are occasionally on parade for royal visits and act as ambassadors for their organisations and the youth of Bedfordshire.
