Bedford businessman Ian Cording, chairman of the Bedfordshire branch of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), said: “The day had a very foggy start outside but inside everyone was clearly focused on seeing what local companies had to offer.

“We had everyone from young students finding out about business to people who had just started up to the old hands.

“It was such a brilliant buzzing day and we even had a television crew there.”

The event was opened by Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, over breakfast, who spoke of the importance of growth to generate more income for the local economy.

Kerry Cash, of hair and beauty spa, 5th Avenue, in Howard Street, told others how she had used social media to generate more business during a talk after lunch.

Peter Ashwell, of Concept Design Associates, in Brickhill, Bedford was one of many to say how much they enjoyed the event.

He said: “This was time well spent and a fantastic morning’s work aided by the generous help and organisation facilitated and delivered by the Federation of Small Businesses, together with sponsorship from the Beds Times & Citizen, Bedford Borough Council and Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce. Here’s to the next year’s event and to a growing local and national economy.”

Ian Cording added: “The Beds SME Expo is a superb shop window for local businesses but it is always a worry that not enough people will turn up. Thanks to the backing of the event’s sponsors and partners, including Woodfines, we had a wonderful and positive turnout.”
