Passengers travelling to and from Bedford will be be able to make use of the gleaming new bus station in the heart of the town.
The transport hub is on track to open on Sunday, March 29 as final stages of the project begin.
The multi-million pound project is one of the largest ever undertaken in the town.
Stagecoach East managing director Andy Campbell: “The new bus station will improve transport for the people of Bedford and will be a much more pleasant environment for waiting for a bus; although they won’t be waiting long!
“We are delighted that Bedford Borough Council has taken steps to improve what was a bit of an eyesore in the town.”
The area around the bus station has also seen improvements with the revamp of Allhallows Car Park, Greyfriars car park opening, enhance shop fronts and new paving, seating, trees.
More improvements are also planned, including further work on the shops, the opening of a new tourist information centre and a new departure hub in front of the station, which will have live travel information screens.
The opening coincides with the release of Government figures showing bus journeys increased by half a million to 6.7million across the borough between 2013 and 2014.
