Work has started on a new pavilion and community building for a Bedfordshire bowls club.
Players at Sharnbrook have worked with Garden Lodges to create a new facility which not only benefits the club but the whole community.
The 4m-by-22.3m building will take up to 80 people and include tilt-and-turn windows to get the best view from inside. It also features a long interior space for games of carpet bowls.
Club chairman John Woplin said the project has been four-and-a-half years in the making, from fundraising to getting all the plans in place.
He said: “We have completed all the ground work for the construction to begin, which we expect will be completed towards the end of August.
“The club started in 1969 and this is the first time we’ve had a new pavilion.”
He added: “There’s a lack of facilities in Sharnbrook and there are a number of other organisations who are looking forward to using it.”
The fully-accessible construction will meet the latest standards for energy performance and sustainability.
