Buckle confident none of his stars will leave

Bullish Hatters boss Paul Buckle has declared no-one will be leaving Kenilworth Road who he wants to keep in this January transfer window, writes Mark Wood.

And he hasn’t had any inquiries for any of his players, despite some mightily impressive individual performances from some of his players.

Speaking after Wednesday’s 3-1 victory over Woking, he said: “Lots of nice comments and they will probably continue when you see how exciting we can be going forward.

“But nothing as yet. And even if they do, no-one is going anywhere, that’s the way it is.

“I’m confident the club will let me hold on to any player who anyone might try to prise away at this crucial time of the season.

“I don’t particularly want to lose anyone who was on show today if I’m honest.

“I think at this stage of the season the 11 that are starting and the five that are on the bench are in good shape.

“Like I’ve said before it’s evolving. All of the players are not all of the players I’ve brought to the club.

“Some of then have really, really pushed on and know how I want to play and know the challenge ahead.

“It’s vital that we understand what it’s going to take to get out of this division because there are so many good sides fighting it out at the top.

“And we’ve got to be right in there. The first thing we’ve got to do it fight, scrap and be really honest players.

“And if they do that we have got the skill and ability as you saw today with people like Fleetwood, Gray, Shaw, Rendell to go and hurt teams.”

Town claimed the signature of winger Scott Neilson from Crawley Town on Monday, and Buckle is continuing to look to add to his squad.

On whether he was any closer to any new signings, he added: “We might be. It’s an important time. We’ve got lots of games coming up and Gary (Sweet) and the club know where I want to strengthen.

“I’m hopeful we can try and improve the squad, because that’s what it’s about improving.

“The players, you have to keep raising the bar, you can’t let complacency set in anywhere, if you’ve got good competition in any team you normally get good performances and that’s what we’re looking for.”

Goalscoring centre-half Janos Kovacs was unfazed by new additions and believes it can only be good for the team.

He added: “This is football in my eyes. Especially if you are playing for a big club who can bring in players.

“It all depends on results, performances, so as long as you are performing and give all that you can give to the team, to the club, you will keep your shirt, simple as that.

“If someone is coming in and he’s putting pressure on you then that makes you a better player, and if not you are out of the team.

“This is football and you have to deal with it and hopefully we can get promoted.”
