Body found in Bedford river identified as mother-of-three

The body of a woman found in Bedford river has been named as mother-of-three Leanne Gordon.

It is believed she drowned while trying to help a swimmer in distress.

Yesterday neighbours told how Ms Gordon, 30, had only moved to her home at Honey Hill Road a year ago.

She lived with her three children all aged under 10 on an estate less than half a mile from the Great Ouse river where she drowned.

A close neighbour said: “she seemed like a nice lady. She had three young kids and id always see her out with them.

“Its such a tragedy what happened. I can’t believe it.”

A spokeswoman from Bedfordshire Police, said: “ A search of was carried out in an area of river the Great Ouse near Honey Hill after a woman in her 30s got into difficulties at around 8.06pm.

“The body was found after assistance from the fire service and specialist dive teams from a neighbouring force.

“It is believed the woman entered the water to help somebody in distress and got into difficulties herself.

“Next of kin have been made aware and police are supporting the family at this difficult time.”
