Diwali, the festival of lights, takes place each year in the autumn.

One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, it celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.

As well as learning the story of Rama and Sita, the two central characters in the Hindu epic Ramayana, the children created large firework pictures using their feet to explore colour and texture.

They also made firework sculptures with coloured noodles and clay diva lamps inspired by the legends surrounding the festival.

Nursery manager Hannah Buckley said: “The children loved hearing all about Diwali and why it is such an important time of year.

"They enjoy getting involved in different calendar events, and we regularly organise activities to help them to learn more about their own and other cultures.”
