246 patients attended A&E on February 22, which they described as part of an “ongoing trend”.

The trust was in the top 20 per cent of the country for 22 out of 32 key findings in the annual staff survey.

It was better than, or met, the national average for six and only four areas fell below the national average.

Stephen Conroy, chief executive, Bedford hospital said “The annual staff survey is an opportunity for us to learn from the feedback of our staff to ensure that our hospital provides a positive working environment to promote the health and wellbeing of our staff.

“This year another set of excellent results indicates that we continue to have a motivated and engaged workforce that support us to deliver the best care for our patients sometimes under significant operational pressures.

“The number of our staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive treatment has increased again this year and this shows that we remain one of the best acute trusts to work for in the country.”

· Overall staff engagement was ranked at 3.90 out of five, compared to 3.79 nationally
