Bedford businesses spruce up town centre for river festival

Volunteers have hit the streets to get Bedford ready for this weekend's River Festival.

Local businesses led the way in primping and preparing the town centre for to the arrival of 250,000 visitors.

Volunteers from Marks & Spencer, Boots, Santander, Greggs and EE spruced up the area by weeding, sweeping and cleaning.

Sam Laycock, Harpur Centre manager, said: “The healthy high streets local team had a great response from businesses large and small to join in and tidy up the area around their premises so Bedford looks better for the biggest event in the town calendar.”

Christina Rowe from Bedford Business Improvement District welcomed the initiative.

She said: “Our role is to promote the town centre far and wide and it helps if we have a smart shopping area when visitors arrive,”

Other businesses taking part included The Fragrance Shop, Fraser Hart, Tesco, Timpson and McDonald’s.
