BBC TV rail programme visits Biggleswade

Bedfordshire’s milling heritage has been featured on a popular BBC2 TV documentary series.

Great British Rail Journeys, hosted by Michael Portillo, paid a visit to Biggleswade cereal giants Jordans on the show last Thursday, January 17.

The programme sees Michael tour the country by train, referencing articles from a railway handbook by Victorian publisher George Bradshaw.

Thursday’s programme concentrated on the London Kings Cross to Peterborough line and see Michael stop off at Biggleswade - in Bradshaw’s day described as England’s corn capital.

He visited Jordans Mill at Broom and was given a tour of the century-old building by company boss Bill Jordan.

He also popped into the modern Jordans factory on Biggleswade’s Stratton Business Park where he spoke to shift manager Paul Bell.
