A masked burglar was interrupted as he ransacked a home when its occupier noticed the crook skulking behind a door.

It is thought the thief got into the Bedford home in Harefield Avenue through the unlocked front door.

At the time the man living there was upstairs in his bedroom listening to music.

The crook, described as 5ft 9in tall and was wearing a light grey Nike hooded top and black bandana with white sports on it covering his face, fled when he was spotted.

He had already searched the house and taken cash.

Det Con Jason Wheeler said: “I am keen to speak to anybody who saw this man in the area to get in touch with me, or anybody who may know who wears this unusual black bandana with white dots.

“There have been a number of offences recently where entry has been gained through unsecured front doors. The public should also be reminded to keep front doors locked at all times, even when they are in their own home.”

Anyone with information can contact Det Con Wheeler via the Beds Police non-emergency number 101 or text information to 07786 200011 and quote crime reference: JH/6560/15.
