The ashes of 13 people were buried after being left unclaimed at a funeral parlour for more than five years.
Attempts to trace the relatives and friends of the deceased by Shires Funeral Directors in Bedford had been unsuccessful.
On Friday, minister and funeral director Peter Hardy and funeral director Tracy Brown, both from Shires, oversaw the burial of the ashes at Bedford’s Norse Road Cemetery.
Tracy said: “We did everything we could to track down family or friends but in the end no-one came to collect the ashes.
“This is the first time we’ve held a funeral of this kind. It is rather sad.
“These people deserved a final ceremony. It is about showing respect.”
