A blaze that took hold of an apartment above a Bedford restaurant may have been started deliberately.
Firefighters rushed to the three-storey building in Phoenix Chambers, just off of the High Street, at around 1am.
It took half an hour for crews to put out the flames, which only affected the flat belonging to the restaurant.
The fire started in a bin room above Nazur restaurant.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway. The findings will be passed onto police, say fire chiefs.
A spokesman for Beds Fire and Rescue said: “Firefighters stayed at the scene to damp down the embers and clear smoke from the building using positive pressure ventilation.
“There were no casualties and the incident was closed at 2.08am.
“It is thought the fire could have been started deliberately.”
