Five plots at a traveller site near Bedford have been closed after 13 people were arrested in a police drugs raid.

Police officers carried out a drugs warrant following reports of criminal activity linked to drugs at the Willow Drift travellers’ site in Meadow Lane, Cardington on December 13.

Nine men and four women were arrested, and later bailed.

On December 14 Bedford Borough Council obtained a three-month property closure order, which was issued at Luton Magistrates’ Court, for five plots at the site.

Superintendent Mark Upex, of the operation’s command team, said: “An investigation is now underway.

“We have a duty of care to the other residents, and to the wider local community, to ensure people can live safely, peacefully and lawfully.”
