Are the contents of your handbag worth £2,000?

Almost half a million women in the UK are now carrying over £2,000 worth of contents in their handbags, according to new research.

And the same number of women would be prepared to spend more than £1,000 on a handbag.

The value of a bag’s contents quickly adds up when you take mobile phones and laptops into account. Nearly a third of women now also carry an iPod, one in five have an e-Reader and one in ten keep an iPad close to them.

But it’s the cheaper, bulkier items taking up all the space. Half of women cart around a hairbrush, one in five squeeze in the children’s toys, a third carry chunky books and nearly one in ten cram in a spare pair of shoes.

That means one in 10 women carry a handbag that weighs over 4kg – the equivalent of the average pet cat and heavier than most new born babies!

The top ten items to be found in the average woman’s handbag are:

> Purse/Wallet

> Mobile Phone

> Lipbalm

> Keys

> Tissues

> Hairbrush

> Pens

> Handcream

> Medication

> Feminine Hygiene Products
