Police are appealing for information following a robbery on a footpath close to the river in Bedford.

The incident, at ‘The Slipe’ near Queens Park, happened at around 2.25pm on Thursday, August 20.

The victim, a 20-year-old woman, was walking towards the Britannia Gate footbridge when she was struck from behind to the back of the head. She fell to the ground and dropped her handbag.

A man described as white, skinny and wearing a black hooded top with the hood up and dark tracksuit bottoms took her Samsung Galaxy S5 mobile phone and ran towards the town centre.

PC Mark Lewis said: “This was a vicious attack which left the victim understandably shaken. Robbery is a nasty crime and will not be tolerated. We are keen to hear from anyone who saw a man matching this description in the area or who has been approached to buy a Samsung Galaxy S5 with a gold back.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Lewis on 101, text 07786 200 011, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
