Dressed as cartoon characters, including the famous Disney rodent, a street collection team supported the Challenge Cancer Appeal on Saturday (January 9).

This was followed by a concert of Polish music and song on Sunday, with the highlight being a children’s choir in national dress.

Charity spokesman Brian Hanling said: “Every January all communities throughout Poland have events to raise money for equipment in Polish hospitals.

Bedford’s large Polish community has supported that event in previous years but this year decided to raise money for the Challenge Cancer Appeal of Bedford Hospitals Charity.

The Challenge Appeal has now raised over £500,00000 towards its £750,000 target for additional equipment and facilities for cancer care at Bedford Hospital.
