Domiciliary care for all ages in Bedford: Find the perfect carers for your needs, likes and lifestyle

Anthonia Seriki is passionate about caring for other people. Even before she and her husband Niran, set up Caremark Bedford – a franchise of the Caremark home care company – she had spent her life supporting and nurturing others.
Anthonia SerikiI had always nursed that passion to make a difference and support people to live their life to their full potential.
“We started the business because of the treatment my mother-in-law received before she passed. It was not good and it wasn’t the care she deserved to get towards the end of her life.”
Caremark opened in 2021; Anthonia had some direct experience of working in a care environment in 2011. She became a classroom teacher and it was whilst she was teaching she gained a Master’s degree in Special Educational Needs at the University of Bedfordshire, because she wanted to cater better for those children who needed extra support in school.
As a child growing up Anthonia dreamed of opening a home for ‘motherless babies’ and she and Niran have also fostered young people through the local authority, thus widening their experience of caring and nurturing through support.
Care for all ages and needs
Whether you’re 18 or over 85 and whatever your needs or disabilities Caremark can offer the help and expertise to allow you to live the fullest life possible, independently and with dignity, in your own home.
“We are able to support people who want to do things on their own and have their independence in an environment that they are used to. Some people want companionship, others want someone to help them attend appointments, events or community groups. We provide a whole range of domiciliary care and personal care.”
The right people
All the staff selected to work for Caremark, whether they are providing live-in care, day care, personal care or occasional home help care, are all carefully vetted.
Caremark Bedford is a franchise of a larger company, which gives customers the additional peace of mind of knowing there is a large organisation behind it with strong values, and tried and tested training programmes and methods of delivering care.
But, for Anthonia it is the personal touch and attention to every detail, which is the icing on the cake.
When recruiting staff they will interview, follow up with references and go through various screenings including DBS checks and right to work checks before the person is then taken on board and begins further training and assessment.
“Some may work in care already, or have experience, but we want to make sure that we equip them with the skills we require. We do not want to accept people at face value, so we still take them through our own recruitment training and onsite training so that they learn our standards and methods of care,” says Anthonia
A period of work shadowing, where there is further assessment of the prospective staff member, then follows before the process of matching the carer with a client begins. Each carer will work with just one or two clients, so that they can build a rapport and trust with those they work with.
“I would not want to see a new face all the time if this was my care,” Anthonia says. “We match carers to customers on a permanent basis.”
If there is a need for a change of carer, for any reason, then senior staff such as the care manager or field care supervisor, will get involved and oversee any change.

First steps
If you, or a loved one, is looking for someone to help in and around the home or with daily tasks or trips out, then the first step is to speak to the staff at Caremark Bedford.
The trained and experienced senior team members will talk to the client, and their friends and family if appropriate, to discuss not only what kind of care is required but to find out what kind of person the client is, what they like to do and how they want to live their lives.
“When we are administering the services to them we do it with compassion.”
