Regeneration specialist preferred bidder for Bedford's Mayes Yard - and if you want to hear more, you'll have to go to Leeds
Bedford council has picked Cityheart as its preferred bidder for the Mayes Yard regeneration scheme in the town centre.
The regeneration specialists plan to revitalise this prominent area – which includes the former Debenhams building – into a mixed-use destination.
But if you want to hear more, you’ll have to hop on a train to Leeds pronto.
As Cityheart will be attending a three-day property and infrastructure event called UKREiiF in Leeds from tomorrow (Tuesday) where it plans to shed more light on its plans for Mayes Yard.

In a statement to the press, Benji Slater, development director at Cityheart, said: “We are delighted to have been selected as preferred bidder by Bedford Borough Council for the Mayes Yard project and to bring forward a high quality, sustainable development that will make a lasting positive social and economic impact on the town centre.
“We recognise the importance of this location to Bedford and its residents and are committed to delivering a scheme that reflects its character, supports the local economy, and creates a vibrant place for people to visit.”
Bedford Today has asked Cityheart what its plans are for sharing more information with the town closer to home – but it has not yet responded.
Cllr Andrea Spice, portfolio holder for town centres and planning at Bedford Borough Council, said: “This is an important step forward in delivering our long‑term vision for Bedford town centre. Mayes Yard is a prominent site offering a unique opportunity to create a more vibrant, connected and welcoming destination that supports economic growth and reflects the character of Bedford.
“Cityheart has demonstrated a strong understanding of our ambitions for the town centre, and we look forward to working with them in detail as we finalise the next stage in the process.”
Cityheart brings a strong track record of delivering town centre regeneration schemes, including Stockport Interchange and Stopford Park in Stockport, Fettlers in Wigan and Foundry Lane in Widnes.
