Poignant cause for concert by brass band at village hall

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is charity close to the heart of the band, who will be donating all funds raised at its annual concert on Friday May 20 to the charity.

Bedford Brass and the AJs Band have been rehearsing for many weeks for the concert.

And poignantly, one of the Band’s younger players suffers from cystic fibrosis and playing a brass instrument helps alleviate some of the symptoms of the illness.

Cystic fibrosis is one of the UK’s most common life-threatening inherited diseases.

Cystic fibrosis is caused by a single defective gene. As a result, the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, become clogged with thick sticky mucus resulting in chronic infections, inflammation in the lungs and difficulty digesting food

Peter Halliday, conductor of the AJs, said: “Music can provide lots of fun and enjoyment and we would like to raise lots of cash as well as the roof of the Oakley Village Hall with the sound of brass.’
