Bedford house prices increased more than East of England average in March

The rise contributes to the longer-term trend, which has seen property prices in the area grow by 1.4 per cent over the last year.
The average Bedford house price in March was £348,288. Land Registry figures show a 1.5 per cent increase on February.

Hide AdOver the month, the picture was different to that across the East of England, where prices increased 0.5 per cent, and Bedford was above the 0.7 per cent rise for the UK as a whole.


Over the last year, the average sale price of property in Bedford rose by £4,700 – putting the area 13th among the East of England’s 45 local authorities with price data for annual growth.
The highest annual growth in the region was in East Cambridgeshire, where property prices increased on average by 10.6 per cent, to £355,000. At the other end of the scale, properties in Hertsmere lost 9.9 per cent of their value, giving an average price of £470,000.
First steps on the property ladder
First-time buyers in Bedford spent an average of £282,600 on their property – £4,800 more than a year ago, and £50,100 more than in March 2019.

Owners of detached houses saw the biggest rise in property prices in Bedford in March – they increased 1.7 per cent, to £567,791 on average. Over the last year, prices rose by 1.8 per cent.
