Halfords has more than 1,000 temporary Christmas jobs to fill - here’s what they’re looking for

The UK’s interest in cycling has increased this year, with more people getting out on their bikes - especially during lockdown.

Halfords is now recruiting an extra 1,100 temporary staff ahead of Christmas, as it expects a surge in bike sales.

The new vacancies are for customer service advisor roles in Halfords stores.

The recruitment drive comes as the retailer looks to meet the surge in demand for kids and adult bikes over both Black Friday and Christmas. Halfords reported a 148 per cent increase in online sales, including a 184 per cent rise in the sale of electric bikes.

Temporary vacancies are available across the whole of the UK, supporting store teams in the lead up to the busy period and performing a key role in the handover of Christmas bike purchases to customers.

Applicants for these temporary Christmas roles will need to apply in-store.

The temporary roles are alongside the recent announcement of the recruitment of a wide range of permanent service-related jobs across Halford's stores, Autocentres and mobile vans

Previous experience not essential

Halfords’ Group Head of Resourcing, Andy McBride, said, “With the public turning to alternatives to public transport this has led to extra demand for bikes and essential motoring services. That’s why we’re excited about hiring some much-needed help during the festive period.”

Mr McBride says that previous experience is helpful, but not essential, as the company is looking for people with a real ‘can-do’ attitude, who are eager to learn.
