Garden Of The Year 2012 winner!

Sarah Wady’s beautiful garden has been crowned the Times & Citizen Garden Of The Year 2012.

A delighted Sarah was revealed as the overall winner in the Bedford area at the annual prizegiving on Thursday, September 12.

She was presented with her prize by Jane Moore, of competition sponsor Bedford In Bloom.

Garden Of The Year is organised by Frosts at Willington with the Times & Citizen and Biggleswade Chronicle.

Sarah’s garden captured the imagination of the judges who visited her garden in early July.

In their notes they described her garden in Philpotts Avenue, Bedford as: “A haven in the centre of town, a garden with a paved patio, a circular lawn surrounded by trees, shrubs, herbaceous and bedding plants all placed like an artist pallet.

“A small pond and waterfall, a gravel garden on which there is a small table and chairs for two, placed so as to catch the evening sun and ideal to enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the day.

“Two raised beds full of vegetables, water buts and a composts bin. A great deal of thought and skill has gone into creating this lovely garden.”

The successful prizegiving evening held at Frosts at Willington was hosted by Rosemary Towers.

Despite one of the coldest and wettest April, May and June on record the judges Maurice Rust and James Allen were amazed at the quality of gardens that entered.

They visited a total of 50 gardens.
