Bedford's Mayor Dave Hodgson has written to petrol stations in Bedford Borough urging them to reduce their prices after website PetrolPrices.com revealed unleaded petrol can be more than 8p a litre cheaper in nearby Milton Keynes.

At the time of writing (April 2), prices for unleaded petrol in Bedford ranged from 124.9p a litre at Morrisons Bedford, Tesco Bedford Extra and Tesco Bedford, to 135.9p at BP Bedford bypass roundabout on the A6/A421.

Over in Milton Keynes, the cheapest was Morrisons Milton Keynes and Asda Milton Keynes Automat at 116.7p per litre.

Last week the cheapest price in Bedford for unleaded petrol, according to the website, was 124.9p and the highest price was 129.9p - but in Milton Keynes the range of prices was 116.7p to 123.9p.

Mayor Dave Hodgson said: “There can be no justification for this price difference and I have written to petrol stations in Bedford Borough asking them to reduce their prices so local residents do not have to pay more than those in Milton Keynes.”
