Best Small Front Garden 2012

A couple have picked up a garden award after more than 40 years of hard work.

David and Christine Perry built their bungalow in Allhallows, Sandy 45 years ago and they have been working on the garden ever since.

They sold half of the property 12 years ago but their green-fingered focus has remained, leading to their Best Small Front Garden award.

David, 73, said: “The garden is a bit smaller these days so we tend to be pottering around rather than gardening most of the time!

“Colourful leaves are our focus and we prefer plants and flowers that stay in bloom for most of the year rather than the ones that come and go.

“We grow a lot of hostas, ferns and grasses, which look lovely and bring a lot to the garden.”

Retired architect David – who was also a founder director of Loline Interiors in Biggleswade – and Christine can normally be found working in the garden in the evenings and at weekends.

The two runners-up in the Best Small Front Garden category are Mr T Cox of Laburnham Road, Sandy and Valerie Abrey of The Knolls, Beeston.
