Best Small Back Garden 2012

A couple from Sandy have come first in this year’s small back garden category.

Peter and Yvonne Hull, from Windsor Way in Sandy, won the prize for best small back garden with their eco-friendly design.

The garden, which has been designed to be useful as much as it is beautiful, includes a vegetable garden, perennial plants, a huge 250 gallon water butt for collecting rain water and a compost bin. The couple say that the garden has been 14 years in the making.

Yvonne said: “The idea was to make the garden truly ‘green’. Making it practical as well as just well designed and I think the judges appreciated that.

“We very much enjoyed making it and tending to it – and we’re very glad now that we can sit in it and appreciate all the hard work.

“I imagine we are probably among the few people in Britain who have appreciated all the rain this summer... but it does the garden a lot of good!”

The couple have said that they will next year they will be entering the front garden award category next year, an award which they just missed out on this time around.
