Due to the rise in Covid deaths in Bedford, registering your baby's birth has had to be temporarily suspended.

According to Bedford Borough Council's website, all available staff have had to be moved over to the registration of deaths.

In a statement, the site says: "This means that we will be unable to respond to any enquires regarding other registration matters at this time unless it is in connection with an application for wedding or civil partnership ceremonies which falls within the category of 'exceptional circumstances'."

A borough council spokesman also told Bedford Today: “We really appreciate the patience of new parents who are looking to register a birth during the current pandemic. Unfortunately due to the number of death registrations we have been unable to offer routine appointments for births.

“As soon as routine appointments are available we will update the registrars page on the council website, please visit regularly to check.”
