WEEKEND UPDATE: Bedfordshire records more than 220 Covid cases over bank holiday weekend

Over the bank holiday weekend, Bedfordshire recorded 223 new cases, according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

Out of that figure, Bedford had 110 new cases, with a total of 14,518 people now diagnosed with the deadly virus; Central Bedfordshire has 49 cases, with a total of 16,382, and Luton has 64 cases, with a new total of 21,081.

There were no deaths in Bedford (485), Luton (500) or Central Bedfordshire (571).

Meanwhile, Buckinghamshire now has 31,950 cases of Covid, Hertfordshire has 77,706 and Milton Keynes has 20,375 cases.

In the UK, as of Monday (May 31), 39,379,411 people had received the first dose of the vaccination for Covid, and 25,537,133 had received their second dose. ​

The new figures are recorded between 5pm the previous day to 5pm and unfortunately don't include the number of patients who have recovered from Covid-19.

Nationally, the number of coronavirus cases now stands at 4,487,339. The number of deaths is 127,782.
