Over the weekend, 385 people in Bedfordshire were diagnosed with the deadly virus, according to the latest figures from Public Health England

Out of that total, Bedford had 72 new cases with a total of 3,480, Central Bedfordshire had 113 new cases with a total of 3,861 and Luton recorded 200 with a new total of 6,367.

On Wednesday, the town - which had been in the medium tier before lockdown - was lumped in with the whole of the county in the 'high' Tier 2 with Luton currently recording over 2,800 more cases than Bedford.

There were three deaths in Bedford (207), three deaths in Luton (224) and two deaths in Central Bedfordshire (261).

Meanwhile, Buckinghamshire now has 8,128 cases of Covid, Hertfordshire has 19,040 and Milton Keynes has 4,218 cases.

The new figures are recorded between 5pm the previous day to 5pm.

Nationally, the number of coronavirus cases now stands at 1,723,242. The number of deaths is 61,245.
