UPDATE: Almost 40 people test positive for Covid in Bedford as cases rise again

As of today (May 12), Bedford recorded 37 new case of coronavirus, with a total of 13,759 people now diagnosed with the deadly virus, according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

There were no deaths in Bedford (485) or Luton (499) or Central Bedfordshire (570).

Central Bedfordshire has seven new Covid cases with a total of 16,089, while Luton recorded 17 with a new total of 20,779.

Earlier, Bedford Today revealed how the council was urging residents to stay cautious as new cases were beginning to rise sharply within the under 40sMeanwhile, Buckinghamshire now has 31,731 cases of Covid, Hertfordshire has 77,193 and Milton Keynes has 20,201 cases.

The new figures are recorded between 5pm the previous day to 5pm and unfortunately don't include the number of patients who have recovered from Covid-19.

In the UK, as of today, 35,722,461 people have received the first dose of the vaccination for Covid, and 18,438,532 have received their second dose. ​

Nationally, the number of coronavirus cases has risen by 2,284 and now stands at 4,441,975. The number of deaths has risen by 11 to 127,640.
