UPDATE: 97 people diagnosed with coronavirus in Bedford and 132 in Central Beds

Over the weekend (April 4/5), Bedford has had a total of 97 diagnosed cases of the deadly virus - up from 74.

Central Bedfordshire 132 cases, up from 99 and Luton is up from 116, with 163 cases.

These numbers are lower than Hertfordshire (833) and Buckinghamshire (268) and Milton Keynes (155) but members of the public are urged to remain indoors as much as possible to halt the spread of coronavirus.

The new figures are now recorded between 5pm the previous day to 5pm.

On Monday, March 23, the government announced tougher social distancing measures, with all outdoor activities prohibited except for food shopping, one daily exercise, treatment of a condition and any essential travel for work.

Nationally, the number of coronavirus cases now stands at 47,806. The number of deaths has been recorded as 4,934, according to Public Health England.
