Initially, hoping to reach a target of £1,000, the 100-year-old raised a phenomenal £33million.
The national clap will be at 6pm this evening.
Last night, a minute's silence was held at the start of Bedfordshire Police and Crime Panel meeting.
Central Bedfordshire Conservative Arlesey councillor Ian Dalgarno, who chairs the panel, said: "Very sadly Bedfordshire has lost one of its heroes.
