Although the number of new coronavirus cases locally is lower than it has been previously, the number of cases remains high and it is important for residents to remain cautious and not become complacent.

In light of this, the council is reminding residents to follow guidance on slowing the spread of coronavirus this Bank Holiday, including:

- If you are showing symptoms of coronavirus, make sure you self-isolate and arrange to get tested.

Cllr Louise Jackson, portfolio holder for Health and Wellbeing said: “It is important to remember that while we want everyone to enjoy their Bank Holiday weekend, the threat from coronavirus is still very real in Bedford Borough.

"Now is the time to remain sensible and ensure we are adhering to all safety measures that have been put in place; continue to social distance, wash your hands often and wear a face covering in shops and on public transport.

“Try to limit the number of people from outside your household that you see.

"You can meet outdoors in groups of up to six people who you do not live with, or more if everyone is exclusively from two households.”

Those who are experiencing coronavirus symptoms should make sure they self-isolate and get a test where possible.

There are testing facilities in Bedford available 7 days a week, both for people to drive in or walk in and you can order tests from home.

Tests are free and can be booked at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.
